A message from Kirsten West
Why not make it a “White Summer” with our exclusive Blanca Mesa tableware, handmade in México? Some of the beautiful patterns we stock: Espiga (the graceful curl of the corn silk—our most popular), Cerisa (Cherry Blossom), and Cantini, a classic, Italian-inspired motif.
Combined with our colorful table linens, glasswares and all-white candle holders, any pattern makes for a spectacular, crisp summer look. To mix and match your dinnerware patterns - a popular current trend - try setting off the Blanca Mesa look with plates from our unique Gorky collection.
Also, make sure to stop by to see our “Parade of Well-Dressed Tables”, which we guarantee will infuse your spirit with new ideas for stunning, fresh looks for your summer entertaining.
And last but not least, check out the exciting classes and chefs we are featuring throughout the summer, as part of celebrating some of San Miguel’s tastiest cultural festivals.

MEXICAN CUISINE
A Bit of History and Culture
From Sazon Director Kirsten West When visiting Mexico you will undoubtedly be charmed by the way Mexicans paint their world in a riot of colors, enliven it with ever-present music, explosive fireworks, romance and most of all, FOOD.
You can start the day with a hardy breakfast of Huevos Rancheros, a tasty combination of a crisply fried corn tortilla topped with eggs, prepared your way, napped with a fresh tomato sauce, peppered –up with fresh chile, slices of avocado, sprinkled with queso fresco and fragrant cilantro, accompanied by a dollop of earthy frijoles refritos, refried beans. While you are enjoying your meal, you might not realize that you are eating a cross section of Mexican food history.
Starting with the tortilla, this is one of the most ancient foods eaten today, unchanged as it was served thousands of years ago.
Had it not been for the discovery of the new world we would not have:
Corn: No popcorn at the movies, corn on the cob, corn bread, grits and polenta.
Tomatoes: Imagine Italian food without tomatoes! No tomato sauce, caprese salad, ketchup for your French fries.
Chile: Whole continents with out the fiery spice of chile! What did they do in India, China and all the other spice loving countries?
The list goes on with:
Avocados
Beans
Squash
Vanilla Beans
To name a few of the more popular foods in our world.
However, what the world would be unthinkable without is everybody’s favorite all over the world today:
Chocoloate
When the Spanish arrived in the New World, the emperor at the Aztec court was serving bowls of frothy chocolate. |
